Join OHEA for “Not a Problem to be Solved”, a series of powerful and informative webinars on health equity and racial justice work done by community organizers and culturally-based organizations. Each event will focus on a different topic, including Disability Justice and COVID-19, housing access for Black and Trans youth, sex worker advocacy, and fat liberation. Hear from organizers as they discuss their work in creating pathways to wellness and liberation outside of traditional health systems. On March 30, we will hear from an organization of sex workers who are working to liberate their labor from oppressive structures. Haymarket Pole Collective is a grassroots organization based in Portland, Oregon that focuses on advocating for safe and equitable home-and-workspaces for Black, brown, Indigenous, and or LGBTQIA2S+ sex workers. In this event, they will be discussing their work on sex worker rights and advocacy.

For our final event, we will be joined by the author of “Belly of the Beast” for a conversation around the intersections of fatphobia, healthism, anti-Blackness, and ableism. Da'Shaun Harrison is a fat, Black, disabled, nonbinary person whose work centers on the intersections of fat liberation and disability justice. Belly of the Beast is a memoir that explores the author's experiences navigating health care as a fat, Black, disabled person and the impact of fatphobia, healthism, anti-Blackness, and ableism on their life. Join us on Thursday, May 4 - 6-7:30pm PST via zoom to dive into these important and intertwined issues.
